Christians as Light and Salt in Every Sphere of Influence Introduction For too long, many African Christians have been taught a false choice: "Be spiritual or be influential. Pray or participate. Go to church or go to the world." That division has cost us. While the Church filled the pews, other worldviews filled the classrooms, courtrooms, newsrooms, laboratories, and parliaments. Then we wonder why laws contradict Scripture, why culture mocks the Gospel, and why corruption thrives. Jesus never called us to hide. He called us to be light and salt (Matthew 5:13-16). Light exposes darkness. Salt preserves what is good and flavors what is bland. Both require presence. You cannot flavor a society from the sidelines. The call is clear in Luke 19:13: “Occupy till I come.” That Greek word pragmateuomai means "to carry on business, to do business, to be engaged." It is a mandate for engagement, not escape.
