Famous Last Words of Atheists and Skeptics: A Sobering Reminder
The following are chilling accounts of individuals who rejected God during their lives but faced the reality of eternity in their final moments. These words serve as a powerful reminder that eternity is too long to be wrong!
1. Anton Szandor LaVey (1930–1997), founder of the Church of Satan, cried out on his deathbed:
“Oh my, oh my, what have I done! There’s something very wrong, there’s something very wrong!”
2. Voltaire (1694–1778), the French atheist and philosopher, declared in despair:
“I am abandoned by God and man! I shall go to hell! O Jesus Christ!”
3. David Hume (1711–1776), philosopher and skeptic, said in his final moments:
“I am in the flames!”
4.Thomas Paine (1737–1809), author of The Age of Reason, lamented:
“I would give worlds, if I had them, that my book had never been published. O Lord help me! Christ help me! Stay with me! It is hell to be left alone!”
5. Thomas Scott (1808–1878), once an atheist, confessed:
“Until this moment I thought there was neither God nor hell. Now I know and feel there are both, and I am doomed by the just judgment of the Almighty.”
6. Aleister Crowley (1875–1947), called “the wickedest man in England,” uttered:
“I am perplexed… Satan, get out!”
7. Sir Thomas Hobbes (1588–1679), English philosopher and skeptic, said as death approached:
“I am about to take my last voyage, a great leap in the dark!”
8. Charles Darwin (1809–1882), known for his theory of evolution, reportedly said in his final days:
“How I wish I had not expressed my theory of evolution as I have done.”
9. Jean-Paul Sartre (1905–1980), existentialist philosopher and atheist, admitted:
“I have lived as if God did not exist, but now I see Him, and I am terrified!”
Eternity is too long to be wrong! No one escapes the reality of God’s judgment. These men, who once mocked or denied God, faced the truth in their final moments. Don’t wait until it’s too late to seek the Lord!
The Bible declares:
For everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13).
If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and by confessing with your mouth that you are saved. (Romans 10:9–10).
Prayer of Salvation
Heavenly Father,
I come to You as a sinner.
Please forgive me of my sins.
Jesus, I believe You died on the cross for me, and God raised You on the third day.
I confess You now as my Lord and Savior.
Thank You for saving me.
Amen.
